The State Of Zulia (Zulia State)
The state of Zulia has 63.100 KM2, including the inlands, the lake of Maracaibo, and part of the Gulf of Venezuela.
this state represents around 6.90% of the Venezuelan territory, and it's the fifth state with the largest surface in Venezuela.
The limits of Zulia state are: the Gulf of Venezuela to the North, the state of Mérida and
Táchira to the South, states of Falcón, Lara, and Trujillo to the East, and Colombia to the
West.
The state is divided in twenty one municipalities and each has its own capital and
economical activities.
The climate is hot, with an annual average temperature of 27.8 OC in the low lands and temperature and even cold temperatures on the Western high lands of the Perija Sierra. Zulia is the most important oil producer in the country, with other economical activities such as farming, cattle raising, fishing and industries.
It has many monuments, public and historical buildings, and places of interest such as: Governor's Palace, Casa Morales, Basílica de la Chinita, Catedral de Maracaibo, Laguna de Sinamaica, Monumento a la Virgen, plaza Bolívar, Sierra de Perija, Teatro Baralt and beaches.
The "General Rafael Urdaneta" Bridge is located on the lake of Maracaibo and connects Maracaibo with most of the rest of the country. It was built on rein force concrete and has a total length of 8.678 meters.
The Zulia food has its peculiarity, and it's liked to the alimentary tradition of several Asian, African, Oceania, and Caribbean countries. The coconut is one of the referential elements of its gastronomy as well as its derivatives just like the water, the pulp, and the milk of coconut. These ingredients are frequently used to prepare delicious recipes as chivo en coco, mojito en coco, and conejo en coco. The patacón is another of the very famous dishes of Zulia. We must mention the sweets: calabazate, conservas, and huevos chimbos.
The "gaita", the traditional Christmas rhythm has become the most representative musical expression of the state. The Zulia people enjoy this catchy rhythm which has spread throughout the country.
Maracaibo, known as “the sun-loved city", is the capital of the Zulia state It's so-called because of its high temperatures, and it's a mordent and cosmopolitan city.
